How Can You Be Sure Youre Making The Right Move
âHow Can You Be Sure Youre Making The Right Moveâ Help from our Community âHow Can You Be Sure Youre Making The Right Move?â * Jamie's been offered a job hethinkshe'll love. But when he's changing career to something very different, how can he know for sure he's doing the right thing? What's your career history and current job? I'm a Probation officer. I used to work for the region's Young Offenders Team, then moved into the Probation Service about ten years ago. How do you feel about your work? On the whole, I feel good. I feel proud of the work I've done, and I know I've made a difference to a lot of lives. My colleagues are decent enough, and I'm doing a job I know inside out and back to front. But I've got this constant niggle in the back of my head. There's got to be more out there. Surely I've got more to offer and learn than this? What else can I do with my life? It's also a lot of hard slog, my job. It's tiring. I'd like to have a bit of fun for a change! What would you like to be doing instead? Well, I've actually just been accepted as a member of the cabin crew for a major airline, which is pretty cool. It's a very competitive process, and I made it through. I really like the idea of travelling, although I've not done much of it myself, so this would be a good way to do that. And having worked with some very challenging individuals as a PO, I'm fairly sure I can handle airline passengers! What's the biggest obstacle in your way? I just can't shake the horrible thought that I might give up my job here, take a pay cut, and get started in this new job, only to realise that I don't enjoy it. It's happened before; I thought I knew what I'd like doing, and then I discovered that it was just as bad as my last job. The application process for cabin crew was pretty full on, and I wouldn't have completed it if I didn't want to give it a go, but I'm really worried that I'll do my first month and then realise it was the wrong move. How do you know if your new career is really one you'll love? Can you help Jamie? Have you been in a similar situation, or are you in the same boat right now? How can he be confident he's making the right move? Do you know anyone he could talk to? Share your thoughts in the comments below and click the thumbs-up button to show your support.
